What is All Region?
In Texas, schools are divided into 28 different regions, which are aligned by the University Interscholastic League (UIL) and the Association of Texas Small Bands (ATSSB) for their competitions. The audition music is announced at the yearly Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA) convention in San Antonia, usually in July.
Every fall students in Middle School (7th and 8th grade) and High School (9th-12th) are given two specific musical etudes, or practice pieces, to study and prepare, as well as a list of scales. Percussionists are given three pieces covering three different instruments: Snare, Timpani, and Marimba. They do not have to play scales. None of these have to be memorized and are fully provided by the band director. In the case of lost music, it may be downloaded and printed from this website.
Middle School All Region Tryouts will be held at Union Grove High School, Friday, December 2nd.
High School All Region Tryouts will be held at Mt. Vernon High School, Saturday, December 10th.
Students will be responsible for keeping up with their own music and scheduling private lessons with the band directors.
